| Okay, I've really haven't seen enough of the other Tenchi (Tenchi Universe and Tenchi in Tokyo) series, so I'll just summarize what I know about the characters from the first series (Tenchi Muyo!).Characters
Tenchi MasakiTenchi just presents to me the image of 'the-guy-next-door', in the first episode. He's a pretty nice guy, relativly polite, kinda average...in a word...decent. The show opens when Tenchi's grandfather 'lets' him visit the place where an ancestor, Yosho, imprisoned a demon about 800 years ago. Unfortunatly, Tenchi lets the 'demon' out. The 'demon' is Ryoko, a space pirate who was chased to Earth and imprisoned by Tenchi's 'ancestor' (we find out later that the 'ancestor' was actually Tenchi's grandfather, who apparently has very good connections to the Japanese government to keep people from noticing that he hasn't really died yet.) about 800 years ago. We also find out that Tenchi is actually about 1/8 alien and has uncontrolled supernatural abilities. Unfortunatly, freeing Ryoko unleashes a whole plethora of various extraterrestrials, all of whom happen to be female. Tenchi was raised by his father and grandfather, and seems to have trouble dealing with the opposite gender. Of all the visitors, Sasami is probably the one he gets along with best. They have a psuedo-brother/sister relationship. Tenchi has no idea what to do about Ayeka's and Ryoko's competitions for his affection - he's really a bit clueless. Top
RyokoRyoko is a rather unique person. She's very powerful individual...she managed, with the help of a gas leak, to blow up Tenchi's school in the first episode. Now that's the kind of person you want around! Really though, Ryoko is a very forthright person. She does not get along with Ayeka well, perhaps because both are stubborn as heck, or maybe parhaps because they see each other as rivals. Ryoko does really like Tenchi, but sometimes she's not so good at expressing it. Top
AyekaAyeka is the Princess of Jurai, a pretty important planet in the Galaxy. She was engaged to her half-brother Yosho (believe it or not, some ancient cultures actually did have royalty marry close relatives. It kept the blood in the family. It also kept a lot of other things in the family, like hemophilia.) when he left and never returned 800 years ago. Ayeka went looking for him in her ship, and stumbled upon Tenchi and Ryoko. After a bit of misunderstanding, Ayeka realizes Tenchi must be related to Yosho, and starts to develop an interest in him. Ayeka is a very prim and proper person, and she had a bit of trouble adjusting to primitive Earth conditions. She also is rather stubborn. Top
SasamiSasami is Ayeka's little sister, and is the youngest member of the cast. She accompanies Ayeka to Earth, and responds better to the change than her sister. In the beginning, she did seem to have a crush on Tenchi (about the sort of thing a younger sibling develops for one of your friends), but it fades into a sort of brother/sister relationship. Sasami is almost always accompanied by Ryo-Ohki, which makes sense when you consider that both are relativly young compared to the rest of their housemates. Top
Ryo-OhkiKnow her, love her. Ryo-Ohki is the cute little 'cabbit' (it's not quite a cat, it's not quite a rabbit, but it's very, very cute.). She's an offspring of Ryoko's starship, and can in fact transform into a starship when necessary. She can also phase through walls, like Ryoko, though sometimes she forgets to turn this on before running at a wall. Oops. Ryo-Ohki's common activities involve hanging around Sasami and trying to beg carrots (her favorite food) off of Tenchi. Top
MihoshiMihoshi is a Detective with the Galaxy Police, and, believe me, they are very glad she's currently on Earth. Though Mihoshi is incredably lucky, she is also the most absentminded, air-headed, semi-incompetent person I have ever seen. Think Serena (Sailor Moon) and Dee-Dee from Dexter's Laboratory combined and given a laser pistol. Scary. Mihoshi is a pleasant, if a bit frustrating person to be around, and she is occasionally useful. Washu finds her a bit exasperating, however, as Mihoshi can enter her lab without her permission. Like about every female on the show, Mihoshi rather likes Tenchi, though she doesn't chase after him like Ayeka and Ryoko do. Top
WashuWashu is the self-described greatest scientist in the galaxy, and, actually, we've seen very little to deny that. Among her accomplishments involve having her own lab in a pocket dimension and creating Ryoko and Ryo-Ohki. In a sense, Washu considers herself Ryoko's mother, which is at least partly true, because one of the raw materials was Washu's DNA. Washu is rather fascinated by Tenchi, mostly because how he uses his inheirited Jurai abilities. Washu, though being about 20,000 years old, is nearly always seen in her child form and insists on being called 'Little Washu'. She believes it is much easier being a child than an adult. Top |
